Photographers Working In Color

The photographer’s whose work I am most drawn to is Rupert Truman.  I was first exposed to his work without even knowing it, on the cover of a cd I bought.  The cd was Muse’s Absolution.  The picture is a lone man standing and staring at the sky with the shadows of people flying all around him.  He has also done several covers for The Mars Volta, Pink Floyd, Audioslave, The Steve Miller Band and some more Muse.  Perhaps the most striking thing about his photography is the fact that it is so abstract.  It takes a moment for you to grasp what it is you are looking at.  Take The Steve Miller Band’s let your hair down for instance.  The picture has a man standing up with a rabbit on his head with a drop down ladder hanging down from the top of his head.  Uh, what?  Ohhhhh, let your hare down.  But on to how he uses color.

The way he uses color is beautiful.  It’s not so much that he uses all colors, but single colors that stand out and draw your eye.  If you look at the Mars Volta’s Frances the Mute.  All the colors are somewhat muted while the bags the two men wear on their heads are bright red.  My favorite picture by him is one where a man in running through a lime green door.  The image is set up so you see him going through the door 17 different times, like a sequence.  The background is white so the green of the doors really pops out.     The man is wearing a nice brown suit which gives the images a nice earth tone feel to it.

here is his website so you can look at all his amazing pictures.
